The normal we are used to is changing. First, we want to acknowledge all those struggling with the stress caused by this pandemic. Whether you or someone you know has contracted the virus or you are dealing with stress from all the hardship that has resulted, our thoughts and prayers go out to you.
It is of utmost importance to take care of yourself at this time. Practicing good self-care helps boost your immune system. It’s easy to overdose on the news these days, and there is not much positive news out there. You can’t avoid what is going on entirely and it’s good to be informed, but it’s easy to allow yourself to succumb to the stress.
Follow the Pareto principle
Follow the 80/20 rule, also known as the Pareto principle. Allow yourself to spend no more than 20% of your time on the news, worry, fear, etc. This is a normal human reaction.
Then focus 80% of your time and energy on positive thoughts such as moving forward. Notice what you are thankful for and practice gratitude. Just before you fall asleep is an awesome time to practice gratitude. It gives your mind something good to think about just before falling asleep.
Here in the US, the pandemic has caused a disruption to our normal way of life. It has also been a catalyst for change and a time to pivot for some. Many people are having to work from home for the first time, rather than go into an office. Companies have had to purchase computer equipment and software so their employees can work remotely. Many restaurants and coffee shops are adapting by serving customers with expanded take-out and delivery options.
Businesses everywhere are becoming innovative and changing to meet the needs of their customers in a new way. They are having to pivot and prepare for the new normal. This may include doing their business virtually, at least in part.
Give yourself permission to think in new ways
You may be very comfortable with autoresponders, automated scheduling software, video conferencing like Zoom, and other technology, but many entrepreneurs and business owners are not. If that sounds like you, know that you are not alone. You may be forced to think outside the box at this time. It might be a real paradigm shift.
We need to help one another in order to get the global economy back on its feet. What expertise can you share with businesses and individuals to help them adjust to the new normal?
This is the perfect time to help others if you can. Perhaps now is the time to create an online course to teach people how to get started online. Think of all the things you had to learn at the beginning of your journey. How can you take that knowledge and pass it on?
Stress takes a significant toll on us
This certainly is a stressful time! Relationships are being tested whether people are learning to live apart or spending more time together. Maintaining or losing weight can be difficult when emotional eating is at an all-time high, and domestic violence has risen worldwide.
Staying healthy, exercising, and sleeping during stressful times can be challenging at best. I know I think about “comfort food” more than I ever have. Think of how are you adjusting to meet the needs of your clients.
Take this time to work on your business and take care of yourself. We will get through this.
Remember, you are stronger than you think!
